Seeking Whom He MAY Devour

October 15

“Be angry, and do not sin;
do not let the sun go down on your wrath,
NOR GIVE PLACE TO THE DEVIL.”
Ephesians 4:26-27

How does one “give place to the devil?”

Anger is an open door for the devil. Satan loves to create circumstances leading us into anger, because through the anger of man he can bring about all kinds of evil.

We don’t see into the spirit world so it’s easy to be unaware of it, but it’s very real. And it’s malevolent. Satan is constantly seeking “whom he may devour,” and too often we make it easy for him. We need to pray for grace to be discerning, and when we discern an action being set up by the evil one against us, we need to remember to RESIST him and stand firm in the faith.

If not, we’re sitting ducks for the devil’s glee as he tears down the different segments of our lives.

“Be sober, be vigilant;
because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion,
SEEKING WHOM HE MAY DEVOUR.
RESIST him, steadfast in the faith…”
1 Peter 5:8-9

Remember:
“The wrath of man does not work the righteousness of God.”
James 1:20

Sometimes the Lord means to use painful circumstances to address certain issues that need to be dealt with. But more often the attacks are just plain actions of the enemy of our souls for his own diabolical satisfaction, so evil is he. WATCH for them.

Pray with me:
Help us, O God, to recognize these plots for what they are, and to say to them “NO.” Let us not grieve your Holy Spirit with the defilement that wrath works in us, but rather grant us grace to overcome, to not fall for the wiles of the devil, and to have a right heart before you. This we ask in the Name of Jesus.
