God Is Our Refuge And Strength In Our Troubles

May 6

“God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble;
therefore we will not fear,
even though the earth be removed,
and though the mountains be carried
into the midst of the sea;”

Psalm 46:1-2

Those who have walked with the Lord for a long time have known the faithfulness of this Scripture. They have walked in troubles, and have seen he is there with them. At times terrible things have happened, yet he was with them. Therefore they know not to fear, because they have experienced his presence in all they’ve been through. They know that even if the earth be dissolved, God is faithful to preserve his own.

In a concentration camp during the Holocaust, Corrie Ten Boom was overwhelmed with grief as she saw her sister lay dying, but her sister told Corrie not to grieve. She said to Corrie, “There is no pit so deep, that God is not deeper still.” Even in her dying hours in that concentration camp, Betsie knew the presence of God.

Be strong and unmovable in trials and affliction. They will pass. And what comes after will be glorious. And that’s a promise:

“And we know that all things work together for good
to those who love God,
to those who are the called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28
