“But You, O Lord, are a God
full of compassion, and gracious,
longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.
Oh, turn to me, and have mercy on me!”
Psalm 86:16
A God of Compassion: that means he truly cares.
Gracious: he is attentive to our cries for help even when we’ve brought suffering upon ourselves.
Longsuffering: he puts up with our weaknesses because he knows we are fallen and afflicted. He does not see us as we are, he sees us as we will be.
Mercy: he stands ready to receive anyone who comes to him, no matter their condition. He forgives sin and covers our weaknesses, his mercy endures forever.
Truth: he knows us thoroughly and deals with us according to truth.
